My pc specs is very outdated. literally. but could please spare some time reading this? THANKS

So i am planning to upgrade my motherboard but it seems that z77 boards phased out. :( sigh. i saw a decent board that is sold at a decent price here in Philippines.

here it is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130646

I want to upgrade my motherboard because my board now can't maximize the power of http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E3W1726/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_awdo_CFjatb19CN5GJ . my mobo that im currently using have only have 3.0gb/s

:( my PC is just 2yrs old. and the only thing is that my motherboard is the only one that i did not spend so much money on. now it's phase out :(

so, is that motherboard decent? can it be compatible to samsung evo? thanks in advance

any motherboard that has stata connectors work with that ssd but if you dont have a 1155/z77 cpu already how about you move up to 1150/z87? better performance and easier to find

welcome to the LinusTechTips forums and the CPU/Motherboard/RAM section!

understandably, without knowing your current motherboard, yes, you prolly are not

getting the full potential of the SATAIII connectivity for that SSD. but from a usable

stand-point, spending $100USD+ to gain fractional difference in storage speed

might be money spent in possibly a different area.

unless you are a digital designer, vid ed, or developer, you really won't receive

$100USD perceived performance increase. maybe a 1sec better boot? apps

launch .25sec quicker?

if that is all that you feel slighted on, look into a SATAIII PCI/PCIe controller for

$20USD. investing in a End of Life platform just usually means it'll always need

updating. the next real question is other than the SSD issue, is there anything else

you dislike with your system? if nothing else. save up for a platform change at next

generation launch.

thank you sir. but i am satisfied in the performance of my PC now.

i'm not that kind of heavy gamer where i need a monster PC. i am just pissed when i am opening my computer and it is so slow at boot up.

my processor is i5 2500 and i use a a P8H61-M LX asus mobo (please don't flame me for using this mobo, HAHA)

i think my GPU is amd radeon 6870

then i'd just spend $20 on a controller card if you feel the need for SSD speed.

but again, i don't think you are missing out on a whole lot of "acceleration"

jumping from SATAII to SATAIII

you are saying it is slow. might be other factors involved. like setting up the

motherboard to AHCI rather than IDE has a dramatic effect on speed. loading of

background apps can really make a performance hit.

what drive did you have before?

how slow is slow and what kind of difference from what you had before?

OOOOH thank you. so ssd will not really boost my boot up speed? like when opening programs? :D

i'm using wd 500gb blue.

i'm afraid also that when i will not upgrade my mobo NOW to a decent one. my mobo will be this shit for forever.  since this motherboards are phased out.

life decisionsssss :)) i also need a lot of usb 3.0 ports since im transferring a lot of files. (big files) (as for now i only have 1 usb 3.0 port)

You can simply use a SATA 3Gb/s port. There will be a definite performance improvement it simply will not be as great as if you had a SATA 6Gb/s port. It will be much faster than an hdd attached to the same port. If you really want SATA 6Gb/s you can add an adapter card. Examples http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124108, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815283038, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815287017.

the problem is that. i can't find anything of that here in my country. :( , well maybe i will not just upgrade my pc and save for the next pc

Well if you want to use an SSD without limiting it to SATA 3Gbps speeds perhaps you could get an expansion card or something? If it's just 2 years old it's likely it can't be too bad:)

hmm.. i come up with an idea. i don't want to waste my processor. so will it be good if i buy this  http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-P8Z77-V-PRO-Intel-Motherboard/dp/B007G51UV0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393128742&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+z77

and then. if i choose to buy a good GPU. will this board suffice? :D

i really know nothing about computers. so help me :( please don't flame me

things i want to buy. and i will not change and do nothing in my computer until it dies :D

-a good power supply (corsair rm750 is what i'm targetting for)

-a ssd

-this mobo (recommend to me. asus 1 ) :D

then i will save for another pc. i just don't want this PC to die. this is my first build :( and i know that i bought a shitty mobo, no ssd and shitty psu with my first build.

The motherboard that you chose is a good choice but if you want a board with fewer features you could get the Asus P8Z77-V LK/ P8Z77-V (depending on budget). Unless you plan to crossfire in the future, a 550W psu like the XFX Core 550W/SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM (depending on budget) will be more than enough to power this system.

i really appreciate that many people in this forum are helping me.   :D KUDOS TO ALL!

and what does modular-gold silver and bronze really do in power supply? I heard that Seasonic is a really great brand. :)

also. can a 550W handle a crossfire gpu?

550W would barely be able to handle a crossfire configuration. I would go for at least 650-750W depending on which gpus you plan to crossfire. Modular means that the power cables are removable and you can only connect the power cables that you need which will make cable management easier with less cables to deal with. Here is a great video on 80+ efficiency:

Seasonic is a great brand and XFX power supplies are manufactured by Seasonic which means that they will be also good. :)

do you think rm 850 is good? seasonic tends to be a little pricey here in the Philippines since there are still no seasonic philippines as far as i know

Unless the plan is to run two GTX 770/780 or R9 280/290 a decent psu in the 550W - 650W range is more than sufficient. http://dynaquestpc.com/product/fsp-raider-650watts-80plus-silver/ is a good choice. As is http://dynaquestpc.com/product/seasonic-s12ii-620w-80plus-bronze/.

XFX are rebranded Seasonic and often less expensive.

Modern gpu can handle multiple monitors. So a single gpu will be sufficient.

I'm not Filipino. I just have a link to the Dynaquest web site.

Without knowing what the psu is going to power and the desired form factor and cpu socket it is not possible to make any suggestions.
