I'm having a problem with my gskills trident x 2400 memory, when I set to use xmp in the bios it fails stability and memory tests. As soon as I set it to auto and it runs at 1600 it passes no problem. I tested with memtest 86 and linx or intel burn test. I also tried running each stick individually and its the same.

My pc specs:

CORSAIR C70

MSI Z77A-GD65

I5-3570K STOCK CLOCK

GSKILLS TRIDENT X 8GB 2400

CORSAIR H100I

SEASONIC X760

GIGABYTE GTX670OC

I would have suggested Memtest86 but seeing you've already done it I'm not really sure what to recommend, it's a shame there isn't another computer you could try the RAM in and see if you get the same results.

I would also have said make sure your board is compatible with 2400 memory but I'd imagine it would be.

i had a similar issue at one point. the cause of my issue may not be the same as yours so dont assume what i say will fix the issue but.. i found the z77 platform isnt to fond of ram running past a certain frequency, with my 3700k and p8z77v deluxe i cant go past 2133 otherwise i have stability issues. now your issue may be something different entirely but i would suggest set for 1866 and work your way up till your at your max stable speed. as a side note i tested my corsair dominator platinum which is sipposed to be good for 2400mhz an my fathers x79 platform and it ran perfectly with xmp enabled so whether its a platform issue or bad luck i cant really say. i ended up selling that ram and buying some 1866mhz corsair vengeance ram though.

The board is compatible up to 2600.

I havent had time to ramp up the mhz's slowly yet but I will give it a try and see how high I can go. I do have few other systems I might try testing it with a different setup and see if its stable, you might be right about the z77 platform.

thanks guys

Yeah i know they say its supposed to be good on the z77 platform which is what had me stumped, one thing i will suggest if you haven't done it recently is update your bios sometimes that'll make all the difference :)

I check everything to make sure it was all up to date. Always first thing I check, got caught wasting hours a gpu problem and update driver everything was fine haha live and learn,

from what i know the memory controller on z77 is on the cpu itself so you would need to overclock your cpu to achieve these speeds as stated by your motherboard manufacturer it's only achievable as an overclock

CPU: i7 3770k 4.5ghz M/Board: Sabertooth Z77 GPU: Asus Gtx 560 Direct CUii OC RAM: 2x4gb Corsair Veangance PSU: Corsair CX600 Cooler: Custome Water Loop With Gentle typhoon 1850rpm fan, Single 120mm Rad, XSPC Raystorm CPU Block
