Get an HD 7950, that's the highest I'd feel safe recommending on a 500W power supply.

The 7950 matches performance of the GTX 670 at stock clocks. It's also a phenomenal overclocker, outperforming the GTX 680 in many cases once overclocked.

Another reason why I'd recommend the 7950 is that you get 3 games for free bundled with the 7950, Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite & Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.

I recommend upgrading the power supply anyways, because a bad power supply can damage your expensive components on the long run, or even suddenly just burns out itself or a component.

Good power supply brands include Seasonic, Corsair, XFX & Antec.
This is what I'd recommend for your build  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207029
It's a very high quality power supply & at 750W it will allow for further expandability if you want to do SLI or Crossfire in the future.
It's also Gold Certified, so it's very efficient & comes with a 5 year warranty.

The games make it worth it really and the 7950 is cheap enoph I could get a better power supply for future upgrades

The 7950 doesn't perform as well that techpower up is saying it does. not saying it isn't a phenomenal card. I'm just saying the 770 you won't have to get a new psu and it will out perform the 7950.

How can you possibly say that ? the 770 isn't out yet, we don't even have the official specs yet.

I can say that based on the gpu silicon it is using.

It's "allegedly" based on the 680 which requires 550W minimum , that's why I asked you "how can you possibly say that" .

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-680/specifications

Also the 7950 does perform that well, many reviews prove it.

"Based" on the 680 the only thing that it allegedly has the same is the actually gpu silicon die. everything else is supposed to be redesigned IE. better power delivery system which would reduce power consumption. Also you just proved my point with that second link on guru. Your first link said the His 7950 was getting 82.9fps in game. Guru using the exact same card was only getting 57fps. And before you say the guru one is showing the stock clocks of the card, tech power up is saying the stock is getting 67.5 which is 10 more fps than Guru. Please explain that for me.

Different graphics settings & different benchmark sequence mate, every reviewer does his testing differently

They're using a different test platform actually.

Techpowerup test on the Z77 platform with a 3770K, guru3D test on the x79 platform with an i7 3960X.

They do a different run through as well, which is why the performance is different.

It's to be expected honestly you can't expect all reviewers to test exactly the same way.

The results are consistent however, showing the 7950 matching or slightly beating the 670 at stock speeds in both reviews.

I would also recommend the 7950.
It's a great card, it easily beats the 660 Ti in the majority of titles & it's a great overclocker.
I recommend going with the HIS IceQ X2, it's the best 7950 out there in terms of cooling & overclocking.

In fact an OCed HIS 7950 IceQ is faster than an overclocked GTX 680 lightning in BF3, Metro 2033, Civilization, Alien vs Predator & even Batman Arkham City which is an Nvidia optimized title.

So you're telling me that the 7950 is going to jump from 57fps to 82.9 on a slower build? Man techpowerup must just stand in corners on edge of map. Which still proves my point that the 7950 doesn't have that kind of performance in a real world setting that techpowerup is saying. And they aren't consistent because the only 670 fps Guru gives is at 2560X1600 which is a ridiculous resolution and doesn't realistically show gpu performance. My point still stands that techpowerup's review is complete bullshit atleast based on the what they are saying about 7950. I know I sound like an ass hole (which I apologize for) but sometimes you have to be to get points across.

Actually using higher resolutions to test graphics cards is highly recommended to avoid running into CPU intensive situations at lower resolutions.

That's why in most CPU reviews you see them using very low resolutions, to make the test more CPU intensive.

I would still recommend waiting & seeing how well the cards perform and how much they're going to cost, even if you don't end up buying one it'll probably have some effect on the 7800 & 7900 series pricing.

Where did I call anyone on this post a name? Shit I even apologized for sounding like an asshole. Now I'm going to be rude and tell you to fuck off and quit acting like gods gift to the world. And I didn't even have to post facts because fanatic was posting them for me.

first off calm down, right or wrong we don't want to start random fights here.

second you can't compare two different benchmarking sites directly.

third even if you could look here.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_7950_X2_Boost/8.html

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/his_radeon_7950_x_iceq_review,16.html

guru is using 4x MSAA whereas techpowerup is using 4x AA.

MSAA is much more intensive.

who knows what other settings are different.

if you have any logical reason to directly compare two different reviews, using different settings, please feel free to enlighten us.

7950 for now.

You guys also know that linus does their own reviews right?

This would probably be a good idea as well.

I would go for the HIS Radeon HD 7950 HIS IceQ X2 because this card can overclock and beat the 7970 reference card.

Keep in mind that overclocking is a crapshoot though. My 7950 that I had only liked to do about 1100mHz. After RMA-ing that card due to heat problems, I got a GTX 670 PE from MSI. Over the official base clock of 915 (MSI's stock is 1016) I pushed my card all the way to 1384mHz. This is without serious aftermarket cooling, so I expect around 1450 maximum.

Again don't always assume a card can overclock well, but let reviews give you an 'idea' of what it can do. Some people couldn't push 25mHz out of their GTX 670, I pushed well over 300.

CPU: Intel i5-2320 @ 3.9gHz

GPU: MSI GTX 670 PE @ 1411/7387

I wanna go fast! :P
