Hey there.

I have an Asus B85M-G R2.0 LGA1150 motherboard. Got a cheap cpu for it, a Pentium G3220. The cpu physically doesn't fit in the socket! At first I thought I made a mistake, double checked: Mobo - LGA1150, CPU - LGA1150. What gives?

Was the G3220 bought used? It could be a G3200 IHS on a different processor. It lists the G3220 on the support page for the motherboard.

There are only two reason it may not work, the one mentioned above with the CPU having the wrong IHS or the socket on the motherboard being switched from a different board. If either component was bought used it's a possibility.

Wow that CPU is tiny. Can you show us a pic of the back? Maybe it shrank in the wash lol

Also make sure you quote us that we can see your responses

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

Yeah either the IHS from a G3220 was put onto a different CPU or the socket on the motherboard was switched. My bet is on the IHS on the CPU, the motherboard socket would be pretty difficult and you'd be able to tell pretty easily on the back.

Quite unusual, something is amiss here. Pcpartpicker does confirm compatibility

PCPartPicker Part List
Type Item Price
CPU Intel Pentium G3220 3 GHz Dual-Core Processor
Motherboard Asus B85M-G Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard $121.01 @ Amazon

Contact the CPU seller with a pic of this cpu not fitting, see if a refund is in order.

For $8 I can keep it for my collection))

I wonder what went wrong?

Just looked closely at the socket and space around it - no signs of a replaced or repaired socket.

Based on what I could find on google images, the CPU seems to be genuine... could you perhaps show a picture of the socket? :)

Don't mind the bent pins, I accidentally bent them a moment ago taking out the cpu)

On the back side of the motherboard where the socket is soldered does it show any signs of replacement, maybe a picture of the rear board will show us more.

That socket is socket 1151, not 1150.... look at the top right configuration of pins and compare it with pictures of socket 1150 and 1151. What it's doing on this motherboard, I don't know...
