HELP ASAP

So, long story short, I had a 2060S MSI, and it ran the same shaders as my friend on at 1660. I run 60 FPS, sometimes dropping below, while he runs 100+. I just bought a 2070S Asus ROG Strix, and I run 70 FPS. I also thermal throttle at 50C. ive tried setting the clock speeds lower, ive tried the messing with fan curves too. I can't really try and fix a thermal paste thing, as I don't really have a computer store that provides it, and it would take Amazon wayy too long.

Current Full Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x

MOBO: B450 Aorus Elite

GPU: 2070S Asus ROG Strix

RAM: 16Gb ddr4 3000 Corsair LPX (2x8)

Power Supply: Corsair RM 750x

That's Interesting.

It's very strange to see a graphics card throttle at 50C.

Have you checked your voltage settings and have you taken the 2070S apart before?

I wouldn't take apart a RTX 2070S, and it shouldn't be necessary, if it is BRAND NEW.

@_Fabled What is thermal throttling at 50*C?

NOTHING should be thermal throttling at that temperature -- neither CPU, GPU, Mobo, or RAM.

Thermal throttle for a CPU / GPU would kick in at 80*C / 90*C+ by default...

I literally JUST bought my GPU today from a microcenter. And to have it happen 2 times in a row, it seems very unlikely. As for the voltage settings, I'm using the ROG GPU Tweek II to put it in OC mode

Just my GPU as far as i'm aware. My CPU with its stock cooler should not be overheating. My absolute best guess is that its my mobo limiting my GPU and or CPU

If I were you I would return the card to micro center and have them get you the another of the same card as I'm 99% sure that the same thing will not happen twice unless your CPU is the root of the issue

The Gigabyte Aorus B450 Elite is pretty robust board.

It should be able to handle a 2700X, even with a mild/mid-level overclock.

The stock coolers for Ryzen are okay, but still not very good.

I would monitor your CPU temperature, and see how high the temperature reach.

For an example, something like 82*C / 83*C is not overheating, but it's most certainly getting into the temperature range where the CPU will not Turbo Boost as high.

I can't go to MicroCenter again, thats like a 4 hour drive one way

I might be able to I'd just hate to do it again

As for what rascal said I too would recommend to monitor your CPU temps before traveling 4 hours to a microcenter.

I would recommend you to also stress your CPU first to see if any throttling is occurring then stress just your GPU to confirm if the issue is truly the GPU

If your CPU by itself is throttling then the problem might be the stock cooler (or maybe how you applied it)

TLDR the entire thread.....

That's rough comparison figures. We have a single system spec. Is your friends the exact same? What monitors are you guys using? Exact same? Are the game settings exactly the same too??

anyhow...

Did you try to enable DOCP profile in bios to get the memory running 3000mt/s? This will help a little bit.
