So I am looking to upgrade my whole setup and rig. Planning on going to 144hz and really need to update my PC to meet that refresh rate in performance. I am still on a small budget but I can cough up around $400 total most likely a little more if needed, the problem is, I just don't know what I should do first.

Right now i'm sitting on:

Ryzen 3 1200

EVGA GTX 1060 3GB

2x4GB sticks of DDR4 Ram

I also have a 500GB Samsung SSD and a really overboard and good fully modular power supply. So that doesn't need any upgrading.

Basically I would appreciate recommended upgrades that you guys suggest. And possibly an order I can follow from most to least important so I can kinda save up the money little by little. Thank you!

Wich model is that PSU?

Wich mobo do you have?

First upgrade idd do is to get 16GB or RAM. Sell those 2x4 and get 2x8 3200 or 3600Mhz.

Then maybe a faster GPU. Is that 144Hz on 1080p?

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂

My PSU is a SeaSonic Focus Gold 650W I believe. And as for my motherboard, I have an ASUS Prime B350 Plus. I don't know much about motherboards or if mine is good or bad to be honest. And yes I will be sticking to 1080p.

I think you should look into upgrading your GPU. Midrange GPU right now is pretty good for the price. Also, some game is starting to use more than 8 GB of RAM, so you'd want to upgrade that.

You don't need to upgrade the CPU, but, if you wanted to, you should wait for the Ryzen 3100 and 3300X which will launch on the 21st of May. Both are 4c/8t which is better than the 1200. Alternatively, you could just buy a 2600.

Main Rig :

Ryzen 7 2700X | Powercolor Red Devil RX 580 8 GB | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 | 16 GB TeamGroup Elite 2400MHz | Samsung 750 EVO 240 GB | HGST 7200 RPM 1 TB | Seasonic M12II EVO | CoolerMaster Q300L | Dell U2518D | Dell P2217H |

Laptop :

Thinkpad X230 | i5 3320M | 8 GB DDR3 | V-Gen 128 GB SSD |
