So heres the long story short.  My friend has a laptop without a GPU and he plays games with us all the time but gets pretty low framerates.  The rest of his computer is honestly pretty great (i7 8th gen, 16 gb ram, ssd, etc).  I have a spare GTX660 that I have no use for anymore.  Is there any way I could make an enclosure out of wood, put a psu inside along with the 660 and attach the 660 to the laptop with something like this?

Well the most reliable way to mount an eGPU is with a thunderbolt eGPU enclosure. However only new, expensive laptops have this and it's most likely he doesnt have this thunderbolt port in his laptop. Its best to check though, looks like USB C with a lightning symbol on it. Many people use this more budget way of creating an eGPU with the pcie riser you linked. This isnt very good either but it should work. It is less reliable than thunderbolt but you can get possibly better performance with it. Your friends laptop should have a Mini PCIe port for one end of this to plug into. You also get NGFF, M.2 and some other versions of the riser you linked. Usually the port these connect to are used by a wifi card at the bottom of the laptop. You will have to remove this to connect this eGPU, and if you do then you will need to use a wired ethernet connection. Find out what port the wifi card was connected to, likely Mini PCIe or M.2 and buy the corresponding riser. You can watch Linuses video on it that I linked at the bottom. Plus I reccomend you build the enclosure out of metal as wood isnt as good for thermals and is a possible fire risk.

Good Luck!
