I have a dell optiplex 330 with an LGA 775 socket will a core 2 quad Q8200 work?

You need to find out the chipset of the motherboard. Then you can look it up and see what preocessors are supported by the chipset. The Q8200 DOES fit in the LGA 775 socket, but it depends on what chipset is built on the motherboard.

Core 2 Quads of any variety are not supported on the Optiplex 330. I believe most if not all Core 2 Duos are though which means you could probably upgrade to something like a Core 2 Duo E8650 or E6400.
