Hey guys, looking to upgrade my PC. I built back in 2016 or 17 or so, and it's time for a bit of an upgrade, I've kind of fell out of touch with the latest and greatest.

I'm running a Ryzen 2600x with two GTX 970's not in SLI, I use quite a few monitors for multi-tasking. The CPU and GPU are my main targets for upgrading, as I bought these GPU's i think in 2014/15 when they were released. I use a Strix Gaming X370-F mobo, just flashed to the latest BIOS today to allow compatibility for a Ryzen 3xxx but I'm ready to purchase a new mobo if really necessary. I also use Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb 3200 ram. I have an 850W gold corsair PSU of some sort as well, so that wont be an issue. My goal is probably to keep one 970 for powering 3 monitors, and the new GPU to power my primary gaming monitor.

1. Budget & Location

Budget isn't really a concern, but I won't be buying a couple 2080ti's as an upgrade. I'm thinking in the range of a 2070S and a Ryzen 3600X or something. I'd like to stick with Nvidia, as it's been very reliable for me for a long time. I live in Canada, prices are a bit wonk but still decent right now.

2. Aim

Gaming primarily, but I multitask on 4 monitors. Videos/Work(google docs basically)/Games/Movies etc. I play all sorts of games, from OSRS to demanding AAA titles like Tomb Raider or the Witcher etc. Sometimes two or 3 at a time (idk how)

3. Monitors

Run 4-6 monitors. All 1080P, primary monitor is 144Hz for running games at 1080P.

4. Peripherals

Own everything I need already.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I'd like to bump up FPS in some more demanding games, trying to strive for that consistent 144FPS while playing, or as close as I can get. I would imagine newer hardware will run cooler for the most part as well, which would be nice as my office is pretty small.

I appreciate any input you guys have, let me know what you think if you have time!

Thanks

I'd shoot for 3700x rather than 3600 if multitasking is what you do most, maybe more RAM if you nearly run out of it today. GPU choice is difficult, 2070S is slightly faster than 5700XT, but that's $720 versus $550 (excluding crappy cards)

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

I'm looking at the 3700x & a Strix 2070S. There's a love affair between me and Strix products for some reason, I'm just drawn to them, even though they cost like $200 more than a comparable card. Ram has never seemed to be an issue for me, the multi-tasking is mostly light stuff, no rendering or streaming or anything. Just movies and a few (OK like 40) Chrome tabs.

3700X with a 2080S Is what I'd say if your plan on running triple-aaa's, unless you shove down the settings. But high-ish settings 2080S is great.  3600 is another good choice, but no 3600x/3800x. They're basically usless upgrades compared to the 3600/3700x. The 850 watt psu seems really nice and you'll have no problems with it. You may want to consider some faster ram, but really it doesn't matter all that much if you have 3600mhz+/3200mhz RAM. the x370 should be okay, especially since am5 may be coming out with zen 3, so down the line you can just switch out the motherboard once rather than twice.

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

I may just pull the trigger on a 2080S, just like when I built this PC several years back, I wanted to built it and forget it for a few years. I'd like to do that same thing again. I've been reading/watching around and it does seem that the 3700x is the best value. I may upgrade ram in the future, as more compatibility becomes readily available. I had a hard enough time getting this ram to run at 3200 stable, not really sure why.
