Right now 5700xt is the best value at that price point.

Evga 2060 KO can also be good value, but it's also slower card.

Can be.  The KO’s added value lies in specific non gaming situations.  If you’ve got one of those it’s great.  If you don’t it’s a 2060.  Competes with 5500xt or something iirc.  5700xt will beat its pants off gaming.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

That is a bit old.  If it was even a 7950 I would encourage you to hold until the next gen if GPUs comes out as they will drastically change price/performance as such things generally (though not recently) do.  I’ve got a 580 which I suspect will become unusably slow in a year or less.  I upgraded from a 7950 to a 970 to a 580 which is about the same speed as the 970 but worked with win10 and my monitor unlike the 970.  The 580 also dropped support for my monitor shortly after the returnable date on my 580 expired so I’m still hosed.

580's are still very capable GPU's...I gave my wife my old 570 and she still is able to play pretty much any modern AAA title just fine.

It remains totally competent for 1080p.  The new console apus are being announced as being 10-12tflop with hardware ray tracing though.   Far faster than a 580.  This is why I’m saying “will” not “has become”.  I’ve seen the new consoles as having power equivalent to between a 5700xt and a 2080s.  Hence my wait.  If a 2060s becomes too slow to play new titles on it won’t be worth $400 any more.  Probably barely over a Benjamin.

Do you think though that ray tracing will become a new 'requirement' in the foreseeable future though?

I personally do not unless there is a drastic change in the hardware.  I actually think it more likely that some game writer may think of something clever to do with the hardware OTHER than ray tracing.

I mean you either wait for the new series of gpus or get either a 5700xt or a 2070 super they are both relatively equal
