Hello guys,

In 2016 I was playing with my watercooled reference gtx 780 trying to find its limits. I and I found them! At the moment I was trying to push 1.4V the PC immediately shut down and a little smoke came from the graphics card. I thought back then that having a gpu watercooled and keeping temps below 60ºC was enough to not damage a card. But It turned out I was completely wrong.

Today I removed the EK waterblock and inspected the card in order to find out what really happened and it looks that a power regulator is fried.

Do you know if this is possible to repair at a reasonable price? I currently own a 1080Ti so this is not matter of life and death but I would like to do something with this card.

If you are interested in a EK Waterblock for the reference gtx 780 please, DM too!

Thanks for your attention guys, have a nice quarantine!

If that chip wasn't melted then it could have possibly been repaired but with that damage I'd say cut your losses. That and gtx 780's can often be found for under 100 easily due to them not really being that great of a card anymore.

Depends if you can find someone in your area that does component level repair. I've tried it myself but because of the copper layers of the pcb, getting the solder to melt is pretty difficult. The chip itself is pretty cheap. Locally I have a guy who did fix a couple of motherboards and a HD 6970 with a similar problem. He worked on it for about an hour or so, with parts and labour that came to 182.-. That was 8 years ago and worth it the time (no warranty because of OC). In your case, unless you really want that specific card to work again, I'd look for a used model instead.
