Hey guys,

I'm new here and it was a looong time since I built my own computer (sad to say I used a pre-built option with some slight changes) but now I'm looking to upgrade.

Sooo... I don't want to put too much money into it (about 300 - 400 USD), so I'm budget restrictions are in place.

I use my set up mostly for gaming, programming / webdesign. But yea... gaming :D

My set up for now is:

  • Asus Prime 270-P motherboard
  • Intel i7-7700K (overclocked to 4.9GHz (stable))
  • ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti 11GB DDR5X
  • HyperX Fury Black 2 x 8 GB 2133 CL14
  • Cooling: Stock chassis (Corsair 460x), so... one 140 in front, 120 in the back and Corsair's AIO H105 water cooling
  • Power: Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold
  • M.2 + Sata 3 SSDs
  • Monitor: 3440 x 1440 100Hz G-Sync

I was actually thinking about upgrading my cooling to something quieter and more efficient? I was thinking Noctua NF-F12 for the radiator and NF-S12A for the chassis.

What do you guys think? Any advice of maybe a better way to go?

What kind of budget do you have?

You mention fans to improve the sound quality of the machine, was there any other areas where you felt the machine was lacking...faster application use, better fps.  Or did you just want a quieter machine.

Ahhh... a fair point!

So I edited the post already to make notice of the budget.

I don't see it lacking very much... it can run a little bit hot when under stress for a long time.

Honestly I see no reason to upgrade that machine.

What resolution are you playing games in?

I actually added the monitor for reference :)

So... native resolution 3440 x 1440, 100Hz.

Plus, as you guys probably might have already guessed - I care little for RGB.

Or an alternative route might be looking at getting a new case? You don't mention what you have, but there might be something out there that you could grab with decent fans, thermals and noise reduction that might be a cheaper upgrade but ending in the same result, and a nice shiny new case to boot.

In that resolution, as you probably know, it's the GPU that's being taxed the most.

Your CPU is more than capable I'd say, until games don't rely so much on single core performance.

I'd probably start saving up for something like a 3080 or 3080ti.

This might actually be a good idea :)

I'll just upgrade radiator fans for static pressure and with some voltage tweak, I can push it to a stable 5.0 GHz.
