Hey guys,I'm finalising components for my new build. I'm wondering whether going to 1.6 volt ram over the 1.5 ones to reduce the timings is worth it. I also went with the NH d14 over water cooling due to how quiet it can be but if there is a closed loop with an entirely quiet pump I'd consider it. Also that monitor had the lowest actual imput lag I could find for a 1440p IPS type pannel but if there are others that are better please let me know. I really like a quiet pc but I live in a hot part of Australia that is very dusty which is why I selected that case and filters. Fan expert will allow me to power up or turn off fans as needed. I'd really appreciate any feedback.

Currently the system is:

CPU- 4770k with NH D14

Motherboard- Asus ROG formula vi Z87

RAM- Corsair Vengence Pro 2133 11,11 1.5v

PSU- Corsair RM 1000

GPU- Saffire R9 290 Tri X with second later

SSD- Samsung 840 evo 500GB

Extra Storage- Western Digital 3TB green

Monitor- AOC Q2770PDQ 1440p SPLS 60Hz

Case- Coolermaster HAF X 942 with demciflex filter kit, added top 200mm fan and GPU fan duct 120mm fan

Optical- Samsung DVD SH 224BB

Cheers

How much RAM do you have. You don't need 2133 Mhz RAM. Also, just get a 2TB Seagate Barracuda for your mass storage

CPU: i7-4770k CPU Cooler: NH-D14 RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8gb GPU: EVGA Superclocked 780 ti MOBO: ASUS Maximus VI Gene PSU: Corsair RM 850 Case: Bitfenix Prodigy M

I would go with 1600 memory and just get a more of it for the same price. Unless you are already getting like 16GB of 2133. Also I see why you choose a green drive, the extra TB is nice, but why not just get a 4TB green drive, it is not that much more money.

I was getting 16GB of ram, two sticks of 8. They say BF4 shows performance increases with faster ram and with DDR4 ram on the way I was thinking that more applications might start to benefit from faster ram. I was getting the 3TB as it had the best price to capacity and I have another older 2TB laying around so should be right with storage. The 4TB drives seem to have a premium attacked to them here.

Thanks for the rreplies :-)

I wouldn't bother with the RAM timings or speed. Standard 1600 is fine. I think BF4 is still kind of a unique case as most games are still very cross-gen. And the improvement is incredibly minimal. Also, as far as I'm aware, there isn't a 3TB WD green at 7200rpm is there? Did you check that? I would go for a black if you need that much space, or a smaller green if you don't and prefer the energy savings and quiet. If there is a 7200rpm green of that size I would like to know myself :)

The 3TB green drives are listed at 5400rpm. That didn't bother me as I'll be using it mostly for back up and storage and I didnt need a super fast drive to have movies on. Also I like how quiet it is and that it shuts down when not in use. My old pc has been making little noises from various components for years so this time I'm starting fresh with all quiet components.
