Update to Windows 8.1 - delete everything?

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

As everyone said: no. :)

But I just wanted to say: Before you start the upgrade process, be sure to do the following:

-> Be sure to uninstall any security software (If you use Windows Defender, then leave it as is, nothing to be concerned about).

-> Make sure that all your drivers are updated.

Why?

For first point, many people had issues because the A/V interfere with the upgrade process, protecting system files. It takes it as an attack. It's best to uninstall all security software, to allow the upgrade process to be successful, and avoid a Windows re-install due to a failure. Once it's done, you can install it back. Microsoft recommends it.

For the second one, it has been found that some drivers start crashing or causing problems which interfere with the upgrade process. Affected drivers have already released an updated Windows 8 drivers which resolve the issue. Make sure you have them.

And that is all you need to do as preparation. The upgrade process should be smooth.

Hi,

I'm thinking about updating to Windows 8.1, would this mean

everything on my disks now would be deleted?

Or would a update keep all programms/files etc.?

thanks

Nope, it doesn't delete anything if you don't want it to. If you upgrade to it through the Windows App Store it will keep all your data automatically without asking. If you upgrade in a different way it will give three options, one of which is to keep all files and settings.  :)

...mybe one last question:

- is it likely that this causes problem, once the windows 8.1 is installed?

-would it be wiser to make a clean install?

Thanks.
