so about 4 years ago i built my first computer (I5-6600k & 1050 2gb) and just didnt have the budget to get what i really needed so i learned how to tweak and overclock things to get it to work how i needed at the time. well that PC basically ran out of power for the modeling and renderings needed so i purchased a custom built rig with a I9-7900x, MSI X299 Raider, 32GB HyperX FURY DDR4- 2666, Titan XP, and a samsung evo SSD. it ran fine for the past 2 years or so with the renderings and modeling i had to do in stock trim however i now do less design work and more gaming on the tower and it leaves a bit to be desired.

In stock trim i ran cinebench and scored 5781 & 461.

 

since as you know all skills are perishable i remember little of what i once did as far as optimizing and tweaking things. As such i tried using the MSI OC genie and was severely dissapointed. while NZXT CAM shows i'm running base clock of 4100mhz as opposed to stock 3300mhz the cinebench results are downright depressing with a score of 4784 & 425.

 

any advice or tips on manually tweaking settings for better results would be much appreciated as i am well into the realm of frustration.

1. Auto OC tools are dumb as bricks, do not use them

 

2. X299 platform cannot game to the same level of performance as say, Coffee Lake and its relationship to memory is a lot heavier. Think of it as Intel-made Ryzen CPUs when overclocking

 

Max CPU core voltage for these 14nm CPUs is 1.4V, I'm sure you already know. CPU input voltage should be 1.9-2V. You just raise the core clock multiplier as usual, keeping LLC (loadline calibration) somewhere in the middle settings (so level 4 if it lets you choose from level 1 to level 9). Mesh frequency multiplier should be just over 2/3 that of the core clock multiplier (mesh is the interconnect of the CPU, just in case if you're wondering) for best performance.
