So I'm looking to build a new PC for no more than $1200 usd.
I'm gearing this build toward the game Black Desert Online and nothing else.

Currently I'm looking at this.

I'm aware this game is highly single thread cpu intensive.

I just can't justify the price of something like a 9900k.

I'm really wondering if anyone has experience with building rigs for this game specifically.

As well as any tips/changes to the build that would keep it around or under 1200 usd.

Thanks.

(First post here hope it's in the right thread)

You really dont need a super powerful PC to play BDO. You could get an i7 or i5 processor and easily run it

for reference I'm currently rocking an amd fx 8350 and a gtx 970 with 8 gigs of ddr3 2666.

I know I don't need a godly pc for the game but as framerate = damage in the game i want to ensure the least frame drops possible in high population scenarios.

again, just curious if there are optimizations to what i have picked out that might help with general framerate stability.

Also, do you think an i7 would outperform the 3600x here?

Intel does a decent amount better than ryzen due to clock speeds. bdo loves high frequencies, if you're basically mostly playing bdo the i7 would be better than the 3600x (although what i7 are you getting thats the same price as a 3600x?

Not necessarily saying i'll get a cpu at the same price (in the original build i have a bout 200 bucks to spare)

If i went with intel i might look at picking up the 8700k

i'm also curious if there's any real disadvantage on the 5700xt over something in the RTX family.

here's an example of what the intel build might look like.

the real disadvantage of the 5700xt is the drivers. amd is known to have pretty buggy and unstable graphics drivers, and bsods and crashes are (or maybe were, they might've fixed them but it had been ages with these problems) very common. but with the exception of that (and imo thats a pretty big deciding factor since who wants to deal with constant crashes in hopes that one day they fix the driver), it's a better value than 2060 super in most cases.

I appreciate the insight. Still got some time to make a decision.

I want to support AMD as i've never owned an intel chip before and am kind of a fan boy. I just don't want to sacrifice performance to do so.

although i might end up going with an 8700K still unsure on GPU. I guess I need some anecdotal evidence to support the 5700xt before i pull the trigger.
