1st pc build

hello all hope all is well. thanks in advance for any replies. :)

I will start build in a day or 2 just waiting on tower case/monitor/keyboard

1st question what is difference in Matisse, Pinnacle Ridge, Picasso ?? reason why I ask I am looking at installing memory modules on Am4 boards.

2nd question what category would I fall under with my build.(matisse, pinnacle ridge or Picasso) which is in my signature. and maybe you can tell me exactly which slots would I put my G.skill ramm in .. a1a2b1b2

thanks again

If you have 2 RAM sticks, just put them like usual, first in the furthest slot from the CPU, second in the third. Your motherboard manual should have detailed explanation, but this is the general rule. Matisse is the "family" or code-name of the CPU, just like IvyBridge for intel, Coffe Lake etc. Your 3900x will be Matisse.

matisse, pinnacle righse and so on are the names AMD give to each family of processor.

Matisse is Zen 2 Ryzen 3000 desktop cpu

pinnacle is zen+ ryzen 2000

yes the 3900x is matisse. usually am4 motherboards need the ram to be in the 2nd and 4th dimm slot from the cpu. that is, keep the dimm slot closest to the CPU socket empty, then put one stick of ram in the slot next to that, next one empty, and another ram stick in the 4th slot

if I cant find my RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600  on ASROCK website in support under the QVL Matisse table does that mean not compatible or ?

It means it was not tested yet, but most memory kits work. It just depends if it will run at rated speeds, or you will have to either downclock the memory, or loosen up the timings. Just plug it in, and if it boots, it will be at 2133mhz, default for DDR4, then you turn on the XMP profile, be careful to set the CR (command rate) the same as the kit says and you should be good.

Not necessarily. it just means Asrock didnt test it. I have a kit of corsair rgb pro 3200mhz that is not on the QVL for my motherboard but i enabled XMP and it works perfectly fine. this doesnt mean yours will 100% work, but it also doesnt mean that its not compatible.

oh boy wish me luck , I will look into definition of xmp and setting command rate.. as I did not start build yet, this is my first build ever and im not computer smart all new to me … but thanks again man, any tips you might think of .. please send it over thanks again

Okay, so XMP is a profile embedded into the memory sticks, usually for intel platforms, but i have seen them work in AMD platforms (mine included). This profile basically has all the settings for the memory (timings and voltage etc) A short YT video will help you understand it. Command rate is still memory timing related, but in my case for example, it is 2T in the XMP profile, but when i applied XMP on AMD platform, it went to 1T, which caused instability, so i had to go in and change it manually to 2T. It's just a setting in bios, nothing complicated.

Understood, thanks a bunch. Much appreciate your time and replies. (glad I have patience , going to need some for this project lol)
