Hello ppl,

One simple question, should i upgrade to a RTX2070 Super or not.

To start with, i'm on a budget so i can't upgrade my whole system.

I'm running a watercooled i7 4770K @ stock 3.5ghz ( asus formula maximus BIOS crashes with OC for some reason )

16GB ram, some SSD's and normal harddrives.

My current gfx card is an Asus GTX770 strix OC super whatever version with 2 gigs of ram.

For example. it runs GTA V at medium/high settings at 1080p just at 55 to 60 fps and then it caps at the 2 gigs of ram.

Does someone here actually have experience with a similar setup like mine to give me advise ?

well. thanks in advance.

The 4770k is probably still an okay CPU for gaming especially at 1080p. The thing is with new games these days is more of them seem to be utilising GPU RAM over system RAM, so the 2070 is still probably a worth while upgrade.

My friend has had my previous rig for 16 months now: i5 4670K, 1080Ti, 16GB memory, SSD's, running 2x 1920x1080@144Hz and 60Hz, he is completely happy with its performance with new games.

For an older 4 core CPU I don't know whether or not it will cause a bottleneck or not, but if you want it now, I think it is pretty safe to say that it is okay to upgrade. If your main priority is gaming, then a little (if there's any) bottleneck won't hurt much, and the performance gain (again in gaming) will be a lot  more than upgrading other part (like the CPU for example). But, if you do upgrade your GPU, take into consideration to upgrade your CPU next, otherwise it might not be able to grasp the full potential your GPU in the future. It is also worth to note about the current global pandemic, and upcoming hardware refresh by Nvidia in the future. If can wait, it might be better to wait for the global pandemic to stop (because of pricing matters), and maybe the new releases might push the current gen GPU prices down a bit. And please also note that we currently do not have information about how long the pandemic would last.

The choice is up to you as you are the only person who can choose the best for yourself. Please don't let a random person on the internet makes life choices for you.

Here's the question I have for you.  Are you going to stay at 1080p gaming, or do you plan on upgrading to 1440p at some point?  A 2070 is pretty darn overkill for a 1080p system IMO, and it will more than likely cause a bottle neck.

I think you'd probably get an overall better experience, if you plan to stay at 1080p gaming, going with 2060, or a 5700.  Both of those cards will get you in the 80 - 100+ fps range on any current title, high settings at 1080p.  You might be able to push a few more frames with a 2070, but your CPU will certainly be running hot, and if you're already not able to OC then it's probably running hot as it is, and depending on your mobo's VRM it might not want to get much hotter.

At that point, you're saving around $100 on your GPU, and you can put that toward other upgrades, maybe in a new CPU/Mobo fund.

I agree with pstarlord.  A 2070 is a pretty beefy card if your not planning to upgrade you monitor to take advantage of 1440 and high refresh rates.  If your plan is to upgrade the rest of your system in the near future then get it.  Unless you upgrade your monitor to 1440 with a high refresh rate then the card will be wasted.  If you are not going to upgrade any other part for a long time and your GPU is currently holding you back in some games, then just get a 1660 supper and save $300 bucks.  That's my 2 cents.

I just upgraded my GTX 970 to a 5700 XT and honestly, I'm wondering why I did it.  I need to upgrade my monitor if I'm going to notice any difference... which just meens more money that I don't want to spend at the moment.

Also... don't go AMD.  I'm current regretting it due to all the bugs...

First of all, thanks for all the feedback.

I actually do have plans to buy a 144hz screen in the near future. currently i'm using an LG D2500n display. ( got it ffing cheap ) and i really do like the image quality of this thing.

the main purpose of my system is to play single player games, like gta V story mode , mafia 3 and COD MW. although it runs at 20 fps on low settings right now so thats no fun.

But what i understand from you guys is that the rest of my system should still do a pretty good job with a new card like an RTX2070 super.

Are there any versions of this card i should definitely avoid in therms of cooling or quality ?

I wouldn't say that there's a "bad card" on the market that you can find easily, but if you're looking for the best of the best performance, go with the higher-end EVGA cards, or Asus STRIX series.

For lower budget, you can get Zotac, or Galax. Even these two cards are still very good (especially for the money), just make sure you get at least dual fan, unless you have a very small mini-ITX case.
