Looking for some feedback regarding a new PC build. There is no GPU listed as i will be using my 980ti until the new RTX 30XX series cards release (assuming it holds up). I typically only upgrade/build new every ~5 years so i do overkill the system a tad. I am also considering waiting for the Ryzen 4000 series but nothing is known of specs or a solid release date. I have listed two links of what i am considering. It will be mainly for gaming but i will have other items running in the background. Twitch, Discord, internet browsers etc.

I am noticing 100% cpu usage in games like borderlands 3 which is causing a good amount of frame stuttering/super low fps. I am gaming at 1440p but even on low settings this still happens. GPU is also approaching 85C even with a really aggressive fan curve.

Current Specs;

i5 6600K OC'd @ 4.4

Gigabyte Windforce 980ti (factory OC mode currently applied to lower temps)

16gb 2133mhz ram

gigabyte G1 z170 motherboard

nzxt x61 kraken cooler

750w evga psu (might be an 850w)

I do have 1 nvme drive and HDD to transfer over, 970evo listed as i do want a little faster drive and the 860pro ssd (2.5") will likely stay with pc as i may sell it to recoop some of the cost.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Not all prices above are 100% accurate i have found a couple things cheaper online/locally (once stuff re opens and pricing stays whats listed)

Thanks!

A-data sx8200 pro 1tb is priced same as samsung 500gb 970 evo, but it is as fast.

The bottom one is better value to money. since the ryzen 9 3900x is more future proof.

other good

Motherboard tier list in my signature. Pick a good board from there.

Those builds look good. DEFINITELY overkill, but if you know that it's overkill then it's your choice I guess.

(Just sayin', it's cheaper to buy a midrange rig every 3-4 years than to buy a "future-proof" overkill rig every 5 years)

Seeing as pricing of the 3700x i can find for a decent price right now ( i dont mind spending 15$ more as i dont know when local places will re open). For what i am using it for would it make more sense to do a 3700x and 32gb of ram? I am typically using 10gb currently with everything running in the background on my poor i5.

I do have an interested co worker looking for a pc upgrade seeing as he really doesnt play demanding games and would be enough for him. I would be leaving the 860 ssd as it houses the OS
