Hello, how much power can a single 8 pin pci-e connector provide to a gpu on a platinum rated 850 watt psu? I'm wondering because i've read different numbers like some people state that they have pushed 200+ watts through a single 8 pin when others say 150 watts which one is correct? The gpu is a Gigabyte GTX 980 g1 gaming with two 8 pins

I always heard 150w but not 100% sure tbh.

anything above 150W does it start to melt because of the heat from the electric current?

no, you could push i'd say at least 200w, maybe more, depending on wire gauge. the power supply isn't configured to do it though.
