The CPU doesn't have drivers so you're fine. The 4820k and 4930k are also the same generation so a BIOS update would not be required either

Generally speaking, how plug and play are cpus that are listed as compatible with the motherboard and socket? I have an older HP prebuild with an i7 4820k and want to upgrade to an i7 4930k. Both are in listed as compatible and were both offered as options with the prebuild. Should I just be able to pop in the 4930k assuming the drivers are up to date?

Should be able to. Make sure bios are up to date if anything. It's like 6600K to i7 7700k. However my motherboard had a 170 bios chip able to exchange for 270 bios chip.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

So generally speaking do you not need to worry about updating bios when swapping between the same gen cpus?

Yeah same gen will use same bios version. When in doubt, you can always either check the manufacturer's website, or check the release dates of the products to see if they were within a month or so of each other.
