All,

I have started my transition to PC gaming. Like many people, I am working from home these days, so my transition started with peripherals to upgrade my work laptop experience at home. I built my desk last weekend, bought a Monitor (Asus ROG Swift 348), and some Logitech peripherals (G815 keyboard, and G403 Hero). I’m phasing our my TV area and would like to move in the desk to it’s permanent location.

NOW FOR THE PROBLEM...

I haven’t built the PC yet, but have recognized I don’t know how to properly connect all of these items together in a see less way. I will have 3 HDMI Devices (Work Laptop, PS4, Nintendo Switch), and I’m guessing 1 display port device (PC). I need to drive internet to all of these devices (ideally through Ethernet), and control are least the computers with my peripherals.

I’ve looked into KVM switches, and docking stations, and can’t seem to solve all of my needs.

Any advice??

My 2 cents

Unrelated but as a guy who had to do physical therapy because of work injuries because of a bad setups, get yourself a better chair. One with arm rests and adjustable height. Check out a few vids on ergonomics at work. The chair will cost 200/300$, physical therapy and pain killers will run in the thousands.

What will drive the sound ? soundbar? 2.1 speakers? headset ?

Spoiler

CPU Ryzen 5900X - Motherboard Asus ROG STRIX X570-E - RAM 16GB of G.SKILL NEON 3600 -
GPU EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 - Case Mastercase H500p mesh - PSU Seasonic Focus Gx-850 -
Corsair MP600 NVME 1 Tb, Samsung 960 PRO 500 Gb & 2 Seagate Baracuda 7200 RPM 2TB in stripe -
Display two VG27AQ 2K monitor - Cooling Corsair H150 Pro -

Keyboard G-910 W/ Romer G tactile - Mouse G 502 Hero (wired) -
Sound Logitech X-530 and Razer Tiamat headphones

Absolutely! Chair is temporary. Haven’t found one I like yet. Most commonly USB wireless headset for sound, likely upgrading the panel speakers to 2.1 in the future

You can either find a HDMI KVM switch or use a KVM to handle USB inputs and find a HDMI switcher to handle switching between your 3 HDMI devices. For ethernet, you'll need to find an Ethernet Switch if you don't have enough ports on your router or only have one ethernet cable/drop in the room. From my experience HDMI KVM switches tend to be very expensive.

Also concerned the frame rates will be capped at 60, with my 100hz monitor.

KVM switches are commonly for work environments and server infrastructure. So supporting high refresh rates aren't much of a priority for these devices.

Any KVM gear that support more than 60hz will be more expensive than a new TV...

I would also bet that you'll have to plug your headset in the PS4 or the switch's dock for sound to work.

Here is would I would do.
-Keep consoles on the TV
-Network all devices on a 4 port ethernet switch (maybe over a ethernet over power)
-Remote desktop on the laptop to get it to work with KB/Mouse/Gaming screen
