Hey guys im trying to do a fresh windows install but on a different SSD. I was under the impression the CD key would auto transfer over but i am on the screen where it is asking for a CD key.

You can skip this step, so you can install Windows 10 and it might pick up the key later.

Were you logged in with your Microsoft account on the previous install?

Yes.

Are you logged into your account already? Because at some point it should ask you if you have 'changed hardware', because there is already a code tied to your account and you can simply say yes and the code should transfer.

Just did a reinstall of Windows 10 on a system I haven't touched in years. Didn't bother to find the printout of the original digital product key and Windows activated immediately after installing. Microsoft has some interesting (or frightening) ways of tracking this sort of stuff. I made a local account only too, haven't inputted my Microsoft Account credentials yet.

Do you have the 'activate Windows' watermark in the bottom right?

The digital key is not the cd key i bought or that was linked to my microsoft account originally.

A digital key is a key that will only let you have so many festures

Keep in mind when you login with your Microsoft account to a computer with a key on it, that key automatically becomes a digital license.

What kind of features are you missing? Because Windows is either activated or not (and if it's not activated, you will have that watermark in the bottom right).
