Can an opponent's king promote if he gets to the end of the board

No, but the pawns can get promoted if they reach the other side. They can be turned into a rook, knight or queen if I'm not mistaken.

They can turn into anything other than a King or a Pawn. They are the only ones that can promote.

 

Promoting the king wouldn't make sense, since without king there is no game.
