Okay so I put ubuntu on a flash drive and booted using it, it worked.

While in linux however I can see my boot drive and all the files are there and I can interact with them, drive seems to be working fine

Ok, that is good. You have a solid (aka, current) backup of everything important?

Hey, new to the forum, thanks ahead of time for any help, and please forgive me if there's any weird spelling/formatting as I'm on mobile.

The story so far:

left my system on desktop and ran to the store yesterday for an emergency item, when I return home my screen is blank.

I turn it off and back on again, it posts but hangs at the megatrends screen with F1 to enter setup message

Diagnostic "boot" led on mobo is on which generally indicates no boot drive, but my ssd in the "detected ata/atapi devices" list. Post also detects CPU and ram correctly.

Googled the problem but most people with the green "boot" led say the computer won't post at all and they have a blank screen, the most common solution that worked, oddly, was removing and reinstalling the GPU

Jist for some general background, I have had no stability or boot issues previous to this. I generally run an all core 5ghz overclock, and my CPU is on an AIO. The last thing I was doing before running to the store was fiddling with afterburner settings.

What I've tried so far:

Remove and reinstall GPU, remove and reinstall ram, reset all BIOS settings to default, enable csm, check and reseat all power/data cables

My system:

ASUS prime z370-a mobo running BIOS revision 0606

i5 8600k

16gb geil super Luce ram

Msi 2060 super armor oc

Corsair rm 850

Samsung 860evo 1TB ssd

Thanks again anyone for help/suggestions. Let me know if I didnt include enough information/background, I'm kinda frazzled at the moment.

Ok, do this:

Unplug all SSDs/HDDs/nVMEs.

See if you can get past the "press F1 to enter setup"

If you can, then you have a bad drive somewhere.

If not, then it's a bad board/corrupted BIOS possibly.

Disconnected ssd from SATA, still stops on american megatrends screen with f1 to enter setup message. Motherboard "boot" led still is still on as well.

Only change is there is no "detected ata/atapi devices" list, because obviously I just disconnected the only one.

Ok, plug back in just the boot drive (leave the rest unplugged/unpowered) and see what changes, if anything.

Do you have a spare system you can work with? What I'm looking for here is a bootable USB stick with Linux or something on it.

Same as before, just that my drive is back on the "detected" list now that it's plugged back in

I do not have any other bootable media right now though I could perhaps make one

If you can make a bootable Linux distro, that'd be good. I'm beginning to think your boot drive has failed, or is in the process thereof, but I want to be sure.
