Hey guys, so on Friday I went to my local staples looking for some printer paper when instead I came out of the store with an SSD and some eco-pencils that were on clearance, I then went home and installed it. The cloneing of my old HDD went fine and boots faster than ever, however there is one issue. I ran a benchmark with CrystalDiskMark and got the scores below. I've looked on other forums with not many people having the same issues, and the people that do have the drive are getting close to the numbers as advertised (450 write, 450 read). I have tried installing my Sata 3 drivers, and all my Asrock motherboard drivers in general. I have also tried different sata ports and cables. Any help is appreciated! :)

There's usually two controllers on a motherboard for sata connectors. Make sure you are using the faster one, usually intel if I remember right. It's a different port where the sata connection is. Check in your bios and make sure AHCI is enabled.

Is AHCI mode enabled in the BIOS? Also make sure that the SSD is plugged into the AMD SATA ports and not a third-party chipset port.

I have tried turning AHCI mode on but then windows doesnt boot.

You need to do a registery edit for it to work.

Try following this guide:

  1. Startup "Regedit
  2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
  3. Open msahci
  4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
  5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
  6. Exit "Regedit"
  7. Reboot, enter the BIOS and change the SATA mode to AHCI mode

For furture reference. It's a good idea to either quote or mention the person you are trying to answer, else we might not see it.

Just because they are all SATA 6Gb/s doesnt mean they will all perform equally well. On my board some of them are Intel and some are Asmedia. Plugging into the Intel ports made a big difference in the benchmarks.

I opened up regedit, then tried to locate msahci. I am in the services folder and can't find it. I am on Windows 8.1 if that helps.

Ohh, that guide is for Windows 7.

Here is a guide for Windows 8: http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-enable-ahci-in-windows-8-after-installation/

Or you could download the .reg file directly: http://cdn.ithinkdiff.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/ahci.zip. You just need to run the file and reboot oyur computer. When the computer reboots, you go into the bios and change the SATA mode to AHCI.

I downloaded the .reg file and installed it (windows said it installed successfully), then I rebooted, and upon reboot I still got a BSOD.

It says on the website that the register methode doesn't work for every one, so you might have to follow the first guide.

Alternativly you could reinstall Windows, but that can be a pain.

Make sure it's plugged it SATA I (the very first port) and that you have AHCI mode turned on. Sadly, for me, my netbook can't handle my EVO. I get 140MB/s reads (not sure about writes).
