Windows 7 installation USB boot problem...

Hello guys!!

I have a newer gen PC and I wanted to install Windows 7 on it, but I heard it doesn't contain USB 3.0 drivers, so I couldn't proceed with the installation. I did what they said on the Internet: I got my valid DVD and and copied boot.wim and install.wim and installed USB 3.0 intel drivers through cmd and everything went properly. Then I formated my USB with Rufus to FAT32 and partition scheme MBR, then I placed all installation files from DVD on my USB with my patched .wim files. But then when I wanted to boot it I got an error "Reboot and select proper boot device. Or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". I don't know what to do. I did a legacy boot, set the boot order to USB first and boot USB only... When I tried to boot it with UEFI it just shows a black screen for a moment and brings me back to BIOS. What did I do wrong? Please tell me I'm a newb in this topic. TY in advance :)

My motherboard is: ASUS Prime Z-390P

Did you literally just drag&dropped files from the DVD onto the USB?

Or do you mean you've used Rufus and had it properly copy the ISO as a bootable media onto a USB drive?

Create an ISO from the DVD, edit the ISO to add your patched .wim to it and then use Rufus to put the ISO onto a USB drive.

Either that or burn the ISO onto a disc.

Firstly Windows 7 is not supported on that hardware, so you might have more driver issues. Microsoft limited support for newer CPU's to Windows 10. Secondly you have to to make a bootable USB. You cant just drag and drop files. Also, you might what to look at slipstreaming if I recall correctly. This will allow you to not only make a bootable USB, but also include drivers in to your Windows installer.

This is a very old article, but it should tell you how to do it. Hopefully the software is sitll aviable.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
