Is "hybrid" display possible? 4k 60-120Hz and 1080p240Hz inside one display?

Biosek

Hi,

I was wondering, if something like this is possible.

To have one display that is 4k 60-120Hz, but could downsize to 1080p with frequency boost to 240Hz. And even IPS?

Why?

Well my use case for it is this. I like semi-pro FPS gaming and having 240Hz with lower resolution is a new standard. However I'm also programmer and tv show enthusiast, so having 4k for picture clear image is also a must.

Currently I'm running 3 display setup with 2x 4k60Hz on sides and 1x 1440p165Hz in the middle, which is kind off fine. but having 3x 4k as a workstation and if middle could transform into 1080p240Hz in fullscreen, that would be my dream setup.

Can somebody elaborate if this display is somehow possible? Or is it just a stupid idea of mine?

Also how would you solve my problem if this display is not possible?

Thanks for responses!

As a fellow programmer and a TV show enthusiast, it isn't even close to a must.

And no, I don't see this being possible.  They are different technologies.  I'm fairly certain something new would have to be made.  Or we could go back to CRT monitors, which didn't have a fixed grid display and were better than LCD in most ways.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

i can't wait until they come out with the OLED 4K 240Hz G-sync compatible pro display max-q either. (p.s. it isn't really a need and isn't really possible at the moment)

Yeah I also wanted something like it. 4K 120Hz and switch to 1080p 240Hz would be great.

The LCD monitor would need like a custom scalar and firmware for something like that. It's different than what CRTs did though. There's an engineering sample that does this but nothing on consumer side.
