The one with the orange "VS" label is the old one. The one with the grey label is the new one. The new one is better.

so the colored one is the older one? are you 100% sure im about to hit that order button. also what do you think about the VS650. Is it good? because i currently have a lightpower psu and its giving me headaches because of the coil whine it produces. im hoping this vs650 doesnt have coil whine.

Yes, the orange one is the older model.

The new VS isn't particularly great but it's still much better than the old one. I'd suggest going for a Corsair CX instead, as they're not much more expensive but are better in terms of quality.

I see. Actually the corsair CX isnt available at a good price its about 180$ here. I also thought of going for the RM650x if this VS650 still produces coil whine. because i saw the RM series are actually advertised as having 0 coil whine.

What are your PC's specs? You might not even really need 650W.

Yes, the RMx models are much, much higher quality.

i5 9400f, RTX 2060 strix OC. 16gb ram, 1tb HD, 256GB SSD. Also do you recommend any other PSU's in the same range as this VS650 which have no coil whine? Ooh i see you have a corsair RM650X, i was thinking of getting that if this vs650 isnt good. do u have any coil whine on your RM650X?

The RM and RMx are both considerably better than the VS. Way better.

You can't guarantee no coil whine with any power supply.
Does your current power supply have coil whine? If so, what is it?

I have a litepower 650W power supply, i actually rma'd and i got a second one with EVEN WORSE coil whine. thats why ive given up on this shitty brand and ive ordered the VS650 in hopes of atleast less coil whine if not 0. otherwise at the end im aiming to order an RM650x

You'll be fine with a good 550W unit.

I would expect a CX to have a lesser chance of having coil whine, but that's not a guarantee with any PSU as this can be caused by many different factors.

I've been really satisfied with my RMx, which actually dramatically reduced the coil whine on the GPU I had before, compared to my old be quiet! Pure Power L8, funnily enough the only time I managed to hear any sort of whine/buzzing from it is when the PC is turned off and if I put my ear literally right next to the PSU, so pretty much no coil whine to speak of.

A good in-between option would be the TXM, so I would check that out as well.

I see. Anyway I did research the TXM series and the CX series. Here the TXM and CX are actually more expensive than the RM650x so If I had to go with one it would definitely be the RM650x. I've ordered the VS650 as thats my only budget option right now. Lets hope it doesnt have coil whine! If it does I'll return the VS650 and order the RM650X.

Are there no 450 watt or 550 watt versions to look at? An RM550 or RM550X is totally fine.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

Actually currently I'm only looking at amazon for PSU's because they have an easy return policy so far I've only found the RM650x no RM550x. Also I decided to order the VS650 first because I thought why not go for a PSU which is 60$ cheaper which has a chance of not having coil whine, if the VS650 has A LOT of coil whine, then I'll jump to the RM650x (my friend also has the older yellow label VS650 and it doesnt have coil whine so why not, since I'm getting the V2 Grey label VS650 it really shouldnt have coil whine idk. Lets wait and see :D

When you say the new VS is better, in what way is it better than the old VS. Capacitor wise? coils wise? could ya explain :D
