Having trouble trying to format and create a new volume for this drive as it shows as having nothing, taken from an old pc that my dad had and is now now working in his new one

I watched your video. Wasn't exactly easy to understand what you've done so far.
I'm not sure whether all diskpart commands were typed in correctly.

I saw you were trying to convert a partition to a dynamic one, which doesn't work because diskpart wasn't able to read any partitions, because the drive wasn't initialized.
Same goes for trying to convert it from MBR to GPT or the other way around.

To me it seems that the MBR partition table is simply corrupted.
To fix that you'd obviously need to create a new one, which in theory diskpart should be able to do, but I can't quite understand why it wasn't able to.

Maybe a tool like the Aomei Partition Assistant can help here, depending on how many features they stripped out of their trial-version.

Senzelian, thanks for your reply, i was trying to use diskpart to create a new volume because it was from an old computer that had an installation of windows on but im unsure on how to format it because it doesnt give me the option to format it, i tried to do exactly the same thing in diskpart as i did in device manager but again it didnt work. so ill have to try the program you suggested

No, he just tried to initialize the disk with a GPT table, no conversion. Clicking OK should create the table and you're good, but he gets an "Incorrect function" error.

In the video he was trying to do that, if you look at the history of diskpart commands.
Was just pointing out that there isn't any use to this. It's not related to the actual issue really.

Yeah but the diskpart stuff is irrelevant, the first thing he did should have worked. The only reason it wouldn't is if communication with the drive doesn't work or the drive is faulty.
