Problems reaching several websites

Hukjul

Hello LTT community.

I am a first time poster, so please excuse if i selected the wrong category for this.

I currently have a problem with my home network. I have a 300 Mbit copper internet connection. I am using a Unifi USG / Unifi Switch and access point. The good news is that the majority of the internet does reach the advertised speeds of my ISP. Now here comes the problem. I do not have access so some website such as netflix when i want to access with my TV, Windows PC or apple devices. The funny thing is that the android app does work, but loading takes arround 3-5 minutes. I assume that the android app does not time out while Apple, Microsoft and my Samsung TV do time out.

I spoke with my ISP and even though they were really friendly, all they asked me is to check my DNS server and they gave me a new fixed IP address (no idea what this should solve but it was worth a try). I tried several DNS servers (the once from my ISP, google, opendns and cloudflare. None of them changed my situation.

Running the command nslookup gives servers that appear to be from Netflix. This is why i really believe that it is not a DNS problem.

Does anybody have an ideas or workarrounds?

Thanks in advance

Best regards

The problem could lie in the Unifi USG. Since it's a firewall it might be blocking some stuff it's not supposed to. The only weird thing is that android works (kinda).

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

Start simple. Directly connect a client device via Ethernet to your modem, run a speed test and see if Netflix is accessible.

Secondly, how are you hosting the UniFi controller? On a PC or a dedicated network-attached device (e.g. RPi or Cloud Key)? Check to make sure that the software is up-to-date and the latest stable firmware patches for your UniFi gear are installed.

My Controller is running in Virtualbox on Ubuntu on a NUC. It has a dedicated NIC as well. Unifi controller has the most current version and devices have the most updated firmware. I don't have a modem because I have a fixed IP from my ISP.

I for some reason believe that it doesn't have to do anything with unifi. I have two residences running unifi (completely seperate from each other) and at one place it works and in the other it doesn't.

Good thinking just using a notebook to directly connect the cable from my isp to a client pc and testing. Once done, ill let you know the outcome.

Thanks already for all your repies.
