quick question.

Will a graphics card upgrade help much with an A10-7800 3.5

I got my kids each one of these computers and want to have a quick upgrade path.  one does a bit of gaming on his, wondering if putting like a 5600xt or 5500xt in it would be much of an improvement in graphics.

Thoughts?

You could aim for a cheaper GPU like a used RX 550 or 560, or even a used RX 570 (although it wouldn't be able to reach its full potential.) Almost any graphics card makes for a performance improvement, just avoid the nicer ones if they'll be paired with that CPU for an extended period of time.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

My goal is to upgrade him to something better, just not until probably Christmas.  So was thinking the 5600xt so that when I build him his next one he can use it in the new one.

I hadn't built a computer in about 15 years and have done 2 in the last 2 weeks.   So no more pre-builts for me.

Agree with @Fasauceome that CPU will bottleneck any decent card so going above a RX 570 (which some will be lost on that even) would be wasteful AF

Then you could go ahead with something like a GTX 1650 super, at this time it's a really good performer in its price bracket and is not very demanding of your PSU.

What's the power supply in this computer? That is probably the limiting factor on whether a graphics card upgrade will work

Yeah, would need a new psu before doing anything. I hadn't check that and it is like a 175 watt.

So will get that first.

I must say, I was surprised at the performance of the r5 1600af.  Cinebench R20 of 2450 stock. So may just have to do all of it at one time and get him that chip.  I just built a PC with that chip and a 5500xt.

175w psu? Now I am curious to what psu it exactly is. Do you have any pictures of it?

The Ryzen 5 1600AF is of course playing in a different league, far more recent and 6 cores/12 threads vs 2 modules with 2 cores each.

I upgraded to the 2600X from my 3570K at 4.2GHz sometime last year. Huge difference in performance.

It is in a Lenovo pre-built computer.  We got the kids them for Christmas so they would have them to do school work on. They are about 2 years old.  One died, pretty sure the motherboard went out in it.  The other one He uses to play Garry's mod and a couple of other games.
