Keep your board and buy a controller than connects to the motherboards internal USB header to allow software control.

I'm planning on upgrading my motherboard but I don't know if I should buy an X470 or buy a B450 motherboard
One of the main reasons I want to upgrade is because I need a 5v ARGB header
Current MBD: Asus prime x370-pro
Cpu: AMD ryzen 7 1700
GPU: Rx 5500 xt (Gigabyte)
Power supply: Corsair CX750w

The words  “need” and “rgb” don’t really go in the same sentence for me.  What about a usb controller?

b450 is considered equal to x470 for many applications.  The biggest weakness of b450 is it can’t do more than one video card.  This often matters not at all though.  Maybe look at the block diagrams for each chipset and see.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
