I've decided that I'm going for a 4930k system. I currently use an iMac 27" but it's really not designed to be sitting there with all CPU cores maxed out for hours at a time alongside a GPU which is also being pushed. I'm an adobe suite user who makes use of premiere pro, after effects, photoshop, audition, lightroom (sometimes all open at the same time). I also play piano with a midi keyboard and would like to game (BF4 etc.) on my system.

So it's gotta be well rounded! Can't really skimp on anything can I? I also want it to look good since I've got a minor case of OCD. So I'm going for nice looking components with matching colours (red + black).

Being that I am able to max out the i7 3770 CPU in that, I'm looking to maintain the ability to do that but with an overclocked 4930k. Hopefully I'll get to the 4.5Ghz range.

I've been researching my build for a while and this is a COMPLETE build with everything including keyboard, monitor, mouse, br drive etc. The only thing I've not included are the SSDs and HDDs. I already have the following:

500gb Samsung 840 - OS + Apps Disk

480gb Sandisk Extreme - Working disk (where all media is stored for projects I'm currently working on)

240gb Sandisk Extreme - Scratch disk for adobe apps, storage for piano samples (~55gb)

2x4Tb HDDs - Storage + Backup

1x4Tb External disk - More backup

I'll probably want to expand to 8Tb within the next year which will mean doubling up all my 4Tb disks.

----

Alright that's the boring stuff out of the way. I have the following build in mind (Yea there's a lot of corsair stuff):

CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV Black Edition EATX LGA2011 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB ACX Video Card
Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair 860W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

CPU Cooler: Corsair H110 94.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Noctua NT-H1 3.5g Thermal Paste
6 x Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition
Optical Drive: Pioneer BDR-209DBK Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer

Monitor: Asus PB278Q 27.0" Monitor
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K65 Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Wired Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: Corsair Vengeance M65 Wired Laser Mouse

Maybe I'll throw in some lighting if I can have an easy on/off switch.

Questions I have:

- Memory bandwidth. Am I on the right track there with the 2133mhz? I need to keep those 6 cores/12 threads fed so I'm guessing 2133 is a good balance. They're 1.65 volts though and I'm not sure what that means for me since the recommended maximum is 1.5v? Does the 2133 only kick in for me when I overclock?
- Is the H110 the one to go for? I take it bigger is better? I'll be using 2xAF fans in a PULL configuration which means they don't need to be SP fans correct?
- Am I right in picking an 860watt PSU? Will that limit me in future if I decide to SLI or add RAID cards and more drives?
- Will this be a really noisy rig or will my choice of the ACX cooler GPU, H110, quiet AF140 fans and the 750D keep things nice and quiet? It'll be sitting on my desk, 1 meter away from me.

Feel free to add comments and critique the build! I am looking to start ordering the parts in the next couple of days :)

Well, it sounds like you really know what you're talking about here. As for things I'd critique, there really aren't many.

You should know posting on a forum that you will be using an Asus Rampage IV Black Edition in your build, you are going to get a ton of "overkill" comments, which I am about to give to you. Do you need all of the features of the Black Edition? The 4 PCI-e lanes? The maximum overclockability that it entails? For me, when I considered using it with a 4930k (which I later realized I would only need  4770k) I liked it simply for the color scheme. It looked better than most of the LGA 2011 boards in my opinion, so it could be the deciding factor in getting it or not. You said that you will be sitting a meter away from it, so this might be reasonable for you.

As for the GPU, how soon do you need this computer? If you can wait a while, the new Titan Black edition should be coming out soon. When it does, it would fit perfectly with your "Black" color scheme, supply the gaming capabilities of close to a 780ti, and the encoding advantages that a titan brings to the table. However, if you don't think that you want to spend a few thousand dollars on a GPU, then you could always just go with a 780 (maybe ti?) from EVGA, and get their ACX cooler edition. They have a black color that resembles the color of your motherboard closely, and seems like it would be optimal for your color scheme as well. Just some thoughts.

For your fans, you said that you would like them to be as quiet as possible. This would imply that you would benefit from the use of PWM fans. If you don't know what that is, it essentially allows you to change the RPMs of your fans around. Maybe you don't need them at the Full RPM's at the moment, with the help of some software in the motherboard (another advantage of the Black Edition) you could lower the RPM's, which would thereby eliminate any extra noise too. Also, the SP fans don't cost that much more anyways, so I don't see that playing a big factor into your budget.

The Power Supply should be sufficient for now, yet in the future if you plan on adding some RAID cards and a few more GFX cards, then you might benefit from a slightly larger one. I bought a Rosewill Lightning 1300w semi-modular personally. This allows me to have enough wattage to power up two 780ti KPEs, as well as having some wiggle room for upgrades in the future. Sure, I'm not getting the 80+ Platinum efficiency, but I'd settle for more wattage for 3% less efficiency of 80+ Gold. Just some things to keep in mind.

Your CPU obviously is fine, as well as the case. I'm a big fan of the 750D personally, so you should love it too. ;)

If money is an issue for you, you could always just buy 32gb of a not-as-prestige ram from somebody like G-Skill. However, with a build like this, I don't think a budget played too big of a factor.

I hope I was of help, please let me know if I missed anything or if you have further questions.

The only two 2011 motherboards I'm considering are the x79 deluxe and the Rampage IV Black Edition. Both of them seem to make the x79 chipset boards as close to modern as possible. I definitely want to have the inbuilt wifi and bluetooth for example and they seem to be the only two boards that offer it. Now, the x79 deluxe would definitely provide everything I want so it comes down to either saving $200 and putting up with the gold colour scheme which I really don't like or paying the extra and getting a bunch of cool features which I may or may not use depending on how good they are (eg. audio improvements, OC panel) and at the end of the day one of the coolest looking boards ever made. :)

I was considering the original titan but apparently premiere pro and after effects don't really need much double precision performance. In fact, if it wasn't for a bit of gaming I'd do on the side I could probably get away with less than the 780. A 780 seems like a good price vs performance balance.

I did not know that! Would it be an issue going from 140mm to 120mm fans though? Seems that you cannot get SP140's. Also, if I get SP120's for example, since the motherboard can control the RPM does it matter if I go for the performance or quiet editions?

The Black Edition and the Dominator platinum sticks are the two little indulgence items in this build. I feel that if I'm going to go from a fancy pants mac to a PC, it'll have to be a fancy pants PC :)

I hope I was of help, please let me know if I missed anything or if you have further questions.

Thanks for the help! It seems that as long as my memory specs are alright I guess it's just a matter of figuring out the fans I should get!

Nice, I love 2011 rigs.

Hopefully you can get to 2133MHz, I see a lot of people at 2133/2400MHz on their 4930K's

CORSAIR RIPPER: AMD 3970X - 3080TI & 2080TI - 64GB Ram - 2.5TB NVME SSD's - 35" G-Sync 120hz 1440P

I've decided to go for the 780 Ti. The gap was actually larger than I thought it would be!

Other than that everything else is locked in apart from fans and fan positioning funnily enough. Should I set the h110 as an intake or exhaust?? I am thinking intake...
