Mid Tier Gaming PC

Go to solution Solved by Lorkhan420,

Hey everyone, so I think this will be a good base to work off from.

I decided to opt out of getting a new GPU right now, I figure my rx 580 will be fine for another month, sometime in April, when I'll upgrade the GPU to a XFX THICC 3 Ultra, prices may be better then. In May I plan to get another set of RAM and a NH-D15, I'm in no rush to start water cooling, and the LTT test on aio's vs air cooling was pretty compelling as far as performance and acoustics are concerned, and then in June I figure I'll be able to upgrade the CPU to a 3900x. While I would like the performance of the 3950x the 3900x should work fine for what I need it to do. The power draw should be about 409w so the PSU can provide an extra 63% than I would need, which should give me some headroom to OC. I could probably go with a cheaper case but this one has space for storage expansion which I figure I'll just pick up throughout the year as I need it. Part of my decision on the MB was the 8 sata ports which should give me expansion options as well as the build in wi-fi and vram power delivery/ voltage regulation. I was thinking of the aorus elite, but the tuf just has more features for less money. I thought about just getting a prime x570-p and getting a wifi adapter, but that would have just meant adding more cost down the line as I ended up going with a different MB. I should have the build I want sometime in June and hopefully it'll look something like this, with my only extraneous cost being the 3600 which I'm okay with. If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, or know of any issues I might have with this build please let me know. Thank's to everyone who helped me with this. I'm going to order these parts here in about a week unless there's something wrong with my selections. Have a great day everyone. :)

No need to even go to a 3950X tho, so it's a moot point as the OP will undoubtedly understand over the next couple years as his 3600 performs like a champion.

I mean in 3 or 4 years the 3950X will be a nice cheap upgrade if he wanted something with more cores. I agree that he probably won't need it but at least he has the option.

Not to throw water on the fire, but if you're building an $800 entire PC now and plan to upgrade to a $750 CPU only....  Think you either need to take a look at your finances or realistic expectations.

Are you truly going to need/want a 3950X?  If most likely not, don't go x570 now.  You may be surprised that a Ryzen 3600 is all you need.

No worries :) For now a 3600 will do what I need it to, but It will fall short once the build is where I want it. Essentially what I'm looking to do right now is create a base I can build off of, only spending roughly $800 - 1000 now, with potentially investing another 1000 in it over the next year as the market changes. Eventually the build will look something like this (the MB will probably be different depending on what I start with) with a custom water cooled loop for the cpu and gpu.

Eventually I would like to do game streaming in higher resolution, (1440p or even 4k) so I'll need something robust, But aside from that I work with large data sets(where I'm creating files up to 1 tb which i then have to sort through (with my current PC this is a nightmare :) ), I thought of building a pure workstation but I also want to do some streaming and couldn't justify building two systems each dedicated to a different use. I'm also in the process of upgrading my server so the money I have saved up is already being divided. I can live with using my current pc as a slow but able workstation while I build and upgrade a new PC over the course of a year or so. I could spend $2000 on a PC today, but that would mean making other sacrifices I'm not willing make. Thanks

Thanks for that additional info.  Without it, it made no sense to even discuss a 3950X but now that you lay that out... it may be something worth upgrading to as you say.

More info is always good to have in making suggestions or ways to achieve said goals.

@jstudrawa Sorry I didn't put that in the original post but didn't think It was relevant. I've spent the last 6 or so months doing research and budgeting with the expectation that costs will be lower by the time I actually order the parts for the build. I knew things would be different from my last build but didn't realize by how much. When I was thinking about a pure WS build I was looking into the 3960x but then sat down and looked at what i realistically need and the 3950x just made more sense. I appreciate any input you can give on the build. I'll update it here in a while, need to go for now

Thanks to everyone here, you're all hero's :)
