Thunderbolt and USB 3.1 gen versions.

TheWendalorian

I own a dell xps 9560, which has one thunderbolt port. I've been searching around the internet to see what version of the USB 3.1 specification the port supports. Since USB c and thunderbolt share the same connector, I want to know if there are separate chipsets on the port for thunderbolt controlling (up to the 40 gbps speed) and one for usb (say in this case, it's a usb 3.1 gen 1 chipset). does anyone know if this is the case, or if all thunderbolt ports support the latest usb spec (usb 3.1 gen 2)?
