If I get a VR headset and I haven’t activated windows will it shows the water mark

I have a friend with unactivated windows, he has a htc vive and says he doesnt have the watermark. Might vary based on a bunch of factors. There are websites where you can buy single use liscenses, but I dont know the legality of those sites and so I don't condone it, and I won't link to it.
