Guys,

if PSU fails, what usually damages inside PC?

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with, and even if you think I'm rude or not polite, forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Thanks for understanding.

From what I'm aware it shouldn't damage anything, may damage the os as it shuts down suddenly but nothing else

that is not true at all...overcurrent/overvoltage damages the components...

Hmm I put R9 390 inside my PC instead od R7 370.

I thought about selling R9 390 so Ithought today to uninstall the card and install back R7 370 because I don't think I have good quality PSU,although everything works fine.

Lets face it,I'm affraid since this card gets most Watts, that PSU will damage the card and I can not sell it.

I don't remember the models anymore.

First one was Antec that came with a Sonata 3 case, died out when I changed my processor to phenom 2.

Second one was Cooler Master, but don't remember the model or if I changed any parts when it died.

It depends on HOW the PSU fails. Many don't have problems with the rest when one goes bad, it's when they die a firey death, complete with a smokey lightshow is when you have to worry.

Know a guy that has a nice burnspot on his desktop when one died like that, it literally set it on fire.

If one dies it's capable of just putting on anything from a simple lightshow all the way up to an extra cripsy PC.

If you have any doubts about a PSU's condition I'd replace the unit and be done with it.

Oooh.Rarely psu kills gpu?

I bought some used old PSU model,so far everything works okay so I dont know if I need new one to install in order to avoid problems..I'm anxious.

If you're unsure about the PSU you should save up some money and buy a new good quality unit as soon as possible.

Jonny, you as an big expert in PSU,I need your opinion..

I opened a new topic and put a video where you can see that the fan somehow suddenly was touching the fan grill.

I remember the issue on one of PSU you did a review (was it Seasonic), and I did the same, bent the fan grill and now is okay.

Is there a possibility that fan looses all the way, stops spinning (crashes onto fan grill), and damages PSU which damages the PC?

Fan stops --> PSU gets hot --> temp sensor triggered --> PSU turns off.

That's it.

That is assuming the PSU actually has over temperature protection, and that it is implemented properly. Which is not always the case.

Even the extremely cheapo chinese power brick that powers one of my monitors has it (which I know because it overheats on a regular basis, the thing easily gets like 75C, to give you an idea of the level of quality we're talking about)

Either it overheats and shuts off, or it doesn't overheat (perhaps you're not using the computer and the power draw is very low) and it just runs without the fan.

Not sure what you're worried about; you've got a PSU from a good brand with a 650W power rating. What's the problem?

The fan always spins..this is not some modern PSU when fan only works at 50 % load or more.

What I'm saying is, if the fan is somehow blocked, the PSU will get warmer. In that case, 2 things could happen:

1) it gets too warm and shuts off, (overheating) or

2) it doesn't get warm enough to shut off and just keeps working (no overheating)

Now of course I don't recommend running a PSU with a fan that's stopped, but if the fan somehow is stopped by say an object, that wouldn't cause any damage.

But is it really broken then? I haven't ever seen a broken PSU fan. As long as it fits you could replace it with any fan you want, just be careful if you decide to do so; opening up a PSU isn't very safe if you don't know your way around.

Unless the fan is actually broken I wouldn't do it.

Dude, the fan was touching the grill,so obviously is not working the way it should...probably the bearing is bad...

so needs replacement.

so if the fan on my PSU fails, the PSU will trigger OTP which will shut off the PSU and computer without damaging the parts inside PC,right?

That is theoretically but what happens in practice?
