So these last couple of weeks my PC have been crashing and rebooting when I start up a game. In the beginning I could play 20 mins and it would crash. I first thought i was going to be a one time thing but now almost every game I start (the one expetion is Minecraft), it crashes in the game menu. Sometimes it even crashes at the Windows 10 home screen.

I've tried: Starting it in clean boot, unintalling and reinstalling my GPU drivers, changed PCI-E cable on my GPU, cleaned my PCU, running CPUID powerMAX to see if it crashed (nothing happend).

Nothing I've done has changed anything.

Any help is appreciated

My PC specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

Motherboard: ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING

RAM: DDR4 16 GB

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB

PSU: Cooler Master G650M 650W

If you right click the start menu and select Event Log or Viewer (My PC is not setup in english so I am not sure which it is exactly.)

From there select Windows Logs and the System. Try finding the log entries from around the time it crashed, and see if there is a red X icon with either Critical or Error.

Clicking on it, will yield some more info.

If there is nothing in here, re-installing your GPU driver DDU will be the next attempt. (If you didn't do that already)

Download DDU from this site: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/display-driver-uninstaller-ddu-v18022-released

There is a guide here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-tutorial

But in short:

  1. Download DDU and the latest driver from nVidia
  2. Disconnect from the internet, this is important
  3. Run DDU and let it help you get info safe mode
  4. From here, run DDU again, and uninstall your nVidia driver and let it restart your PC
  5. Install nVidia Driver just as you normally would
  6. Now you re-connect to internet

And apart from that, try running Windows update and download any updates that might available.

Can't find any loggs on it, only that my pc wasn't shut down correctly.

And I already re-installed my GPU drivers with DDU before, but I didn't disconnect my internet. Should I re do it but this time disconnect my internet?

It works best that way. If you are connected to the internet, Windows starts downloading drivers quite quick, and they are not the latest versions.

But since you have no logs and already tried this. It is not a driver issue.

Have you tried keeping an eye on your temps?

sounds like it's likely 1 of 3 things, power, heat, drivers, you seem good on power and unless you forgot to use thermal paste or left the protection on your cooler then you should be fine on heat which really just leaves drivers but from what you've already said it doesn't sound like that's the issue

do you have a bootable usb you can try running from? this way you'd eliminate the drive, os, and drivers which could help you diagnose the situation

did you recently change any settings in bios like trying to overclock ram or cpu? might just be an instability

I don't know much about this. But just got thinking. You have put an 8 core CPU on a B450 board, and maybe the VRM's on that model are just not cut out for it.

Now I don't how much those VRMs can handle, but depending on your cooler, maybe the VRMs just get too hot?

Anyone who has some more knowledge on VRMs might pitch in...

Just reset my PC and everything is the same, think it must be a hardware problem

Just reset my PC (didn't have a big enough USB) and everything is the same, think it must be a hardware problem

I opened up my PC, and noticed that my GPU fan isn't running... I guess I found the culprit

I didn't know the GPU fan didn't run until needed... Switched my RAM sticks, launched Minecraft for a test, it didn't crash at first, but it kept pausing every 30 sec. Then after 5 min the PC crashed again

Boot up with one stick at a time and run the windows memory diagnostic tool as an administrator. That could help you detect bad RAM from a hardware standpoint

I bought a new PSU, everything runs smoothly now. Probably should have mentioned that my old PSU is 5-6 years old now. Thanks for the help.

good to hear

be sure to get it tested though as it might've just been a bad cable and not the whole psu, also warranties are surprisingly good depending on who you go through you might check to see if you can still get a free replacement or cheap service fix then you've got a backup
