They do not impact gameplay. They impact loading times and installation time (which is moot if you get your games from Steam, because your Internet connection will limit you before an M.2 would really be able to zoom).

A SATA SSD is more than enough to keep up with games. M.2's are nice, because you can be in Windows and running your games within a minute of pushing the power button. But the cost vs. storage space isn't worth it, imo.

M.2's are great for transferring and reading great, big files, like videos and raw footage. That's where they start to shine. Otherwise, they're nice because you have fewer cables.

But not necessary for a stellar experience.

When I say a SATA SSD is more than enough to keep up with games, what I mean is, a game won't grossly exceed the speed (bandwidth) available to an SSD. Maybe when you're loading entire areas in an MMO or games like GTAV, but a SATA SSD with good hardware otherwise will still load them faster than an XBone or PS4.

They also cost twice as much.

I have one.

I'm not saying they're not great, but it's like saying you shouldn't get a Porsche because a Lambo is faster.

Yeah...but if you only drive it to work, what does it matter? Can you drive 200MPH to get to work? If not, then the extra cost doesn't get you anywhere.

true but i am building a new system this year i am dying of cancer and i want to pass it on to my dad i don't have mush but i figure that would help him a lot for his work as he does tons of file transfers and gaming so it would be a good idea to put them in for him to use later
