Depends what cpu?!? Most mainstream cpus supports dual channel ram so no need for going with 4 sticks (specially with Ryzen) , but extreme cpus have quad channel support. What cpu you have?

If you haven't decided on CPU yet, the benefits, in terms of RAM speed alone buying a HEDT platform to use 4 channel RAM is not worth it. The cost of the HEDT platforms are much too high for the sole purpose of more faster RAM.

 

On any system you build, Single Rank VS Dual Rank RAM DIMMS could make a performance difference though.
