Best ultrawide that doesn't suffer from ghosting.

Balto

Hey guys, I'm looking for a ultrawide (between 34 and 49 inches) that has the least amount of ghosting. I'm not a huge stickler for ultra-awesome color accuracy, nor do I care about 4k. I'm perfectly happy with a 1080p panel. I just want 120hz minimum, G-Sync, at least 34 inches (although, 49 inches would be great too) and minimal or no ghosting. my budget (after taxes) is about 1,000USD. I don't mind going used either.

I'm scarred by my Acer Z35 which is a VA panel, that has horrible ghosting. So much so that within 0-5 minutes I get motion sickness and have to stop playing games. It's bearable with ULMB on and at 100hz, but I didn't buy a ultrawide at 144 to run at 100hz, let alone without g-sync and on a super dim display (ULMB lowers the brightness to a maximum of about ~40% of maximum screen brightness).

[Edit]: I would like to add I have tried every trick out there to minimize ghosting on this Z35. Turning down refresh rate, brightness, messing with overdrive, etc etc.

I've had an LG 34GK950F for 3 months now, and it's absolutely superb.

I thought it was over your budget, but currently it's on sale for like $850 on US amazon.

It's 144hz, 1ms, Freesync 2, and amazing colours.

Best monitor ever IMO

My only issue is, for that price I could afford Asus's 49" inch display... If I'm gonna spend >500 I would like more than 34-35"...

I suppose, but size isn't everything. I think gaming on a 49" monitor isn't ideal. This monitor is big, and amazing quality. You can't get both for that price. Especially in the UW market. You're going to need to spend a lot for a good monitor.

Yea all my research shows that... Ah well. I guess I'll make a decision on what I want exactly once my Z35 sells.

Also, I never realized this but my previous monitor was a TN, so I was expected TN quality out of a VA panel (had no idea there was different panel techs until I started doing research) so yea.

  • 1 month later...

I know I'm kind of reviving a dead thread, but I just wanted to put a conclusion in case anyone else comes looking for the same answer as me. I ended up with an Alienware AW3418DW and I could not be happier. The colors on it are amazing, it has virtually no ghosting (none that I can notice, even in dark games like Dead Space) and G-Sync. Mine does 120hz without a problem and I'm absolutely loving 4k.
