Hello everyone,

The time had came to upgrade my existing rig, which is really starting to show it’s age, both with general desktop applications & gaming (i5-4670k, gtx780Ti).

I'd appreciate your help and advices or suggestions about my planed setup. Most activities will be gaming*, casual video editing, some work in Autodesk Inventor/AutoCAD (playing with 3d printing/modeling).

*EVE Online, Arma 3, Escape from Tarkov,

Those samsung Evo drives are super expensive. Are you a professional editor? If not, you should definitely consider cheaper drives.

One of these would give you even more space and still be pretty fast. It also shaves almost $100 off the price tag

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

looking at the things that you are doing, they are mostly CPU intensive, so I would recommend moving some of your budget from the GPU to the CPU, like maybe having a 2060 (because they have recently shot down in price) and a 3800X/3900X.

3800 is the same thing as 3700 though

Im not a professional editor.

Was thinking about getting that 512gb as a system drive, and 1TB as a storage unit.

But might drop it(1tb), there is a plan to get a Synology NAS in future. To store all my media, music and archived photos. They don’t need to be quick, but they do need to be reliable and long lasting, which I’m sure they will be.

As above. Not a big gain in getting 3800x instead of 3700x, but I might be wrong here.

Why a $360 motherboard ?

I'll probably stick a 3900X or 3950X on it in a year or two once they're more readily available and prices settle down a bit and have no doubts the board will handle either chip without any issues. Might even consider Ryzen 4000 in that time period.

Why $130+ on fans ?

Any good Noctua alternatives?

Fractal Design Define S: - 3x140 front intakes, 1x140 side intake*, 1x140 back output, 1x140 back top output*.

* - option to consider

Might sell 2070s to a friend (by the years end) when RTX3000 gets out there... And proves to be worth it in the end...

A Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite or Asus X570 TUF etc would handle a 3950X.

BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 are probably not much cheaper than the Noctua ones you have. The Arctic F14 PWM PST are good value fans. I would say that 5 is plenty. So 3 front intake and 2 rear exhaust.

Yes the Corsair MP510 and SX8200 Pro should be cheaper. You also have ones like the Sabrent Rocket/Q and HP EX920/950.
