No, the point of the mounting system is to make sure it has good contact

What cooler? Are you going from corner to corner?

Please note that the way you should install a cooler (assuming it is using screws) is the same as car tires.

You want to go in a star pattern, and not tight in fully at the first round.

So, let's assume you have 4 screws:
[1]__[3]
[4]__[2]
So you should screw in, screw 1, 2, 3, and 4, and once you are done, now you can tight further each of them.

Why?

Doing this will avoid teh cooler from being tilted too much when you screw it in, putting too much pressure for a moment on one side of the die (which potentially can damage it), and ensure that you don't scrip a screw or its hole on the plate. Going a second time ensure that each screw is fully inserted.

You should not tight the heatsink screws like crazy, stop when you feel it stopped. It won't fall off, compressing too hard on the CPU can damage it (or the motherboard). I do read on teh forum that people have system problems after installing the cooler, and then they resolve when they uptight the screws of their heatsink a hint. They probably screwed in the screws too far.

That said, I am not saying to have cooler screws loosy goosy, and the heatsink falls in diagonal, as has no contact on the CPU. Just stop screwing when it stops.
