So I got a PC which I'm giving to grandma to pay bills, read news and such but it has a dead PSU. I tried connecting green wire to black with a paperclip but it didnt help. What could I check/replace to fix it? I dont want to spend 50$ bucks on a new PSU for an old PC... Its this PSU(I know its HEC but it will be ok for an old pc) http://www.hec-group.com.tw/model.php?category=psu&sub_category=certified_psu&model=pm

Some pics of it...

Hey. Unless you know what you're doing. I don't recommend touching the insides of the PSU

Ah, fair enough. If your dad knows, all good  :D . Just careful with them capacitors. They still hold a sizable charge even when dead.

So I should I start with capacitors?

I honestly couldn't say what to check within a PSU. I think the internal fuse would be a good place to start, at least (I have no idea where it will be on the circuit board). Perhaps your Dad can be of more assistance

I think we found the problem, they have inflated very minimally but still the cap is a bit round compared to others...
