Problem with CPU Cooler Screws

My brother has a problem with his Acer Aspire GX - 781.

The problem is when he tries to screw his CPU coolers screws in they dont do anything no matter how much you screw.

I'm not sure what the problem is do you have an idea of what it could be?

Not sure how we could know, but usually screws need to be screwed into a tapped hole, so is there a backplate or other hole that Is supposed to accept the screws?

I can see there is a tapped hole in there i can't tell if there is a blackplate because you can only take one of the side panels off

Screws may be too small, can he try others?  The ones holding GPU's in place, PCIe slot ones?

 

I don't know, it's not rocket science.  Screws have to fit holes properly, find the right screw for the right hole.

 

You're not giving is anything to go on at all. What motherboard, CPU cooler, etc.

Well since it's a prebuilt from acer i cant say which motherboard or cooler it is.

He tried using the same screws that were already used when he got the computer.

Wonder if the backplate moved or fell off then, and the screw isn't hitting the hole it needs to in the backplate.

 

You can find the motherboard and cooler from a bit of research about the prebuilt usually, most list it in the build specs.

 

May have to take the motherboard out and then screw it properly.
