Threadripper power

Naijin

I'm about to make the change to a Threadripper system for rendering, as I can get one for cheap. Now the motherboard the cpu (2950X) is currently in, has 2x 8-pin CPU power connectors.

I have a BeQuiet! Pure Power 11 700W CM lying around unused, and was wondering if the CPU (180W TDP) would be OK with just 1x 8-pin CPU connector. Reading motherboard manuals doesn't really provide much info. Has anyone ever tried this before?

It is a Threadripper 2950X and Asus X399 Zenith Extreme motherboard.

Over 9000.

Jokes aside a 8-pins for CPU deliver 384W so only 1 should suffice.

Could it be that motherboards won't post/boot up without the second 8-pin connected?

No, the second connector is if you're going to do hardcore overclocking.

Hopefully it won't care which one is plugged in as long as at least one is plugged in.
