Looking for advice

Looking for some feedback here on a future server. This is what I’m looking to do: host game servers for me and my community from games such as Minecraft ark Conan atlas ext.... also I want to run nextcloud and duplicati for backups of multiple computers and devices. So I have debated custom route and prebuilt and would rather go prebuilt. I currently have a hp pro ilia this g7 dl380 with 32gb ram and dual Xeon x5550. I want to retire this machine and most likely go supermicro route. I plan to do 128gb ram but the processor I am unsure of I want extra power I case I want to do anything different in the future but I want to be able to do multiple gaming servers at once(up to 10) and run my NAS and possibly plex for a small library of my family videos and digital conversions. I was looking at e5-2690v2 but I’m not sure if that’s best route to go. My budget will be around 800 with some wiggle room. eBay links ok

Im confused, these 2 statements are contridictory unless you're talking about a Supermicro barebones? If so then you'll probably find all the LGA2011's are above your budget price once you include 128gb ram + CPU...

You might be best to get a chassis & motherboard/cpu seperately. Such as:

Supermicro CSE-836 (bpn-sas2-836el1 backplane): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Supermicro-CSE-836BE16-R920B-3U-Server-Chassis-2x920W-3-5-16-Bay-BPN-SAS2-836EL1/283628603652

Supermicro X9DRD-7LN4F-JBOD Motherboard: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Supermicro-X9DRD-7LN4F-JBOD-7LN4F-Extended-ATX-Server-Motherboard-Dual-LGA2011/133278379492?hash=item1f0802ade4:g:bxEAAOSw4dxd-vaI

E5-2697v2: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-E5-2697-V2-2-7GHz-12-Core-30M-LGA2011-130W-SR19H-CPU-Processor/352557939405

128GB ECC DDR3 RDIMM: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Crucial-128GB-8-X-16GB-PC3-14900R-DDR3-1866Mhz-240Pin-Server-REG-ECC-Memory-Ram/352846235455

Would be approx $840 + drives, with room to add a second CPU

Jarsky's got you covered in terms of hardware. In terms of software a hypervisor would probably be your best option. It will let you allocate resources to each game server as needed and allow it to act as a File Server.

Proxmox can be used for free. It uses QEMU which is a very low overhead high performance hypervisor with support for hardware pass-though and many knobs & dials you can use to alter the performance of the VM.

Thanks for the feedback.
What would the next best processor be?
i have been looking at e5-2690vs, e5-2650v2 and such, when it comes down to it, im not sure which processor line to go with for my specific needs in a server. would you say its better to invest the extra money into a e5-2697v2? (Which im finding about 200-300$ more in cost with that specific processor vs the others i have looked at)

Many of the 2697v2's are going for a similar price to the 2690v2's. It comes more down to wether you need more frequency or more cores. IMO the 300Mhz difference the 2697v2's are worth it for the extra 2C/4T they give.

This guy has a range of them, which includes the 2690/2695/2697: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-E5-2667-2670-2680-2690-2695-2696-2697-2687W-V2-LGA2011-CPU-Processor/153685547931

The 2695 is a fair bit cheaper, but thats a rather large frequency drop to 2.4Ghz from the 3.0 of the 2690, where the 2.7Ghz of the 2697 is more balanced, especially with some of the game servers where single core performance is important.
