I have the Maximus VI Hero, and I like it. The Sabertooth Z87 is also worth looking at.

Well for gaming it doesn't even matter which mobo you go with. As long as it has the same socket that your CPU needs, performance between the worst and best is negligible able in terms of FPS. I'd only get an ROG board if you're planning on overclocking high and need that high end VRM or just for the aesthetics. Otherwise, even channel series/MSI/Gigabyte boards overclock just fine.

Can anything compare to the ROG Maximus VI Hero? This is for gaming and seeing if anytthing in that price range can compare.

This is my current build http://pcpartpicker.com/user/PapaSimmz/saved/3CQV

All Z87 boards will perform the same, anybody who tells you otherwise isn't being honest.

I would say to not go with an ROG board because they have an e-peen tax on them. You're better off going with a standard Z87 board, something like the MSI Z87-G43.

You don't even get great features from the Hero.

For gaming?

The motherboard for one, doesn't affect performance. What motherboard you get should depend on what features you want.
