External HDD not detected

Hallo,

some weeks ago i cleand up a laptop from a friend of my, deleting shit, reinstaling, defraging, etc.

so today she informd me taht her external HDD (F) dosnt work anymore,so ich check over data manager (picture) and cmd chkdsk f: /r /f

That is not good. I would suspect the drive has failed. You can try playing with the cable to see if it works. If it doesn't, stop using the drive immediately. 

Is the data on this drive important? Is important enough to require data recovery? Is the data worth it to spend at least $1000 to recover it?

Usually the USB controller fails, or usb connector. what’s the exact model of that HDD? you can usually break the external case and connect over SATA to PC to get your data ( you can’t do that if the USB controler is soderd to the PCB).

Yeah you could just open it and plug the drive into another enclosure or into a machine. That would work. Well, unless it is a WD drive then it wouldn't. Bastards encrypt their drives.

You should make sure that wasn't a physical problem. Basically likes a click or clack noise, if not, you can download R-Studio and move all files out. 

If that's a physical problem, if the data is important, DON'T DO ANYTHING! Unplug the drive and send to data recovery company.
